Casa Oceanis, Salema
Holiday Activities and amenities |

 |
Salema is truly
the best of both worlds; with the charm and attractiveness of a small
fishing village with its beautiful, long, sandy beach and a large
range of sports activities within a five minute drive at the well
known golf, tennis and leisure resort of Parque da Floresta. The bars
at Salema’s sea front serve delicious fresh fish and seafood dishes
often caught from the little fishing boats which operate out of the
village and there are also a handful of other small restaurants all
serving a wide variety of delicious food including Portuguese specialities,
all at extremely reasonable prices.

Shopping:
All day to day needs, including drink, are available in the village.
There are various market stalls as well. A wider range of shops and
markets are available in the main towns, (Lagos, Portirnao and Albufeira)
and there is a good supennarket at Budens on the main road towards
Lagos about 3km from the house. Items worth considering to bring home
are earthenware (painted and plain), porcelain (Vista Allegre), crystal
(Atlantis), tiles, shoes andjewellery.
Faro (one hour by car) has a large selection of shops a hypermarket and major chain stores as well as small boutiques.
Alcohol tends to be considerably cheaper than in the UK and similar
to old Duty Free prices for spirits. Shopping hours vary but 0900-1300
and 1500-1900 are fairly standard with the main markets opening
earlier. Increasingly stores, particularly supennarkets, stay open
over lunch and do not close until 22.00 or later.
Banks and Money:
Banks are situated in the main towns. The opening hours are 0830-1500
weekdays (closed Weekends and Public Holidays). The opening hours
for banks are changing and if you have a Cashcard or Credit Card,
there are 'hole-in-the-wall' machines available. To cash any form
of money you are likely to need your passport as well as the relevant
Cheque Card. For cash, we recommend you take Travellers Cheques, Bank
or Credit Cards which can be used in hole in the wall machines. Credit
Cards are accepted in the larger shops and hotels and some may make
a charge for using them Check first. Increasingly, garages accept
Credit Cards. The supennarkets in the village will usually change
money or cheques. You usually get a good rate and the banks sometimes
have long queues.
Post Office:
A travelling post office calls daily to the village at about 1330 hrs.
